June 15, 2011-The former military junta leader President Thein Sein-led new Burmese government, which came to power recently, has despatched three Burmese Army divisions to Kachin State to overrun the defiant Kachin Independence Army, said local people.
The KIA said the three Burmese Army Divisions---the Thaton-based Light Infantry Divsion No. 44, Ywataung-Sagaing-based LID No. 33 and Innma-based LID No. 66, comprising 3,000 troops have been despatched to teach the KIA a lesson.
The Burmese troops have been rushed to Kachin land in ships and trains. Most were stationed in Manmaw (Bhamo) district, said eyewitnesses. The idea behind despatching such large number of troops is meant to launch a major onslaught against the KIA’s brigade 3 in the district.
